Health Conditions That Can Increase Your Risk of Being Injured in a Workplace Accident

Health ConditionsIf you are currently living with a health condition, a big part of your life is managing that condition in order to prevent it from becoming worse or affecting other areas of your life. When you work a job that involves physical labor, managing your health condition is often at the top of your list of priorities. Before taking on a new job or new physical responsibilities at work, speak with your doctor about how it can affect your condition. The following conditions can put you at a higher risk of being injured in a workplace accident.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a condition that causes an individual to stop breathing suddenly while he or she sleeps. This can happen multiple times each night, waking the individual and making it difficult for him or her to fall asleep and stay asleep. Sleep apnea sufferers often experience fatigue during the daytime, which can affect their coordination, judgment ability, and reaction time.

Asthma

Like sleep apnea, asthma can disrupt an individual's sleep and cause him or her to suffer lowered cognitive function during the daytime. Asthma is a condition that causes the airways to produce extra mucus, which can impede one's breathing and cause him or her to wheeze or suffer shortness of breath. If an individual suffers an asthma attack while working with heavy machinery or standing on a ladder or scaffold, he or she can easily be injured.

Obesity

Obesity puts stress on your muscles, joints, and bones, which makes it easier for you to be injured if you are involved in a workplace accident. It can also make it more difficult for you to recover from your injury and put you at risk of developing other health conditions, such as sleep apnea. Fortunately, obesity can be managed and even cured by eating a balanced diet and getting sufficient exercise.

Depression

Depression is a mental health condition that can put you at a greater risk of being injured because like others listed above, depression can cause you to feel fatigued. It can also make it difficult for you to accurately perceive the hazards around you, which can make it easier for you to make miscalculations or missteps in the workplace that can cause an accident. Depression is treatable through medication and various types of therapy. Like obesity, depression also puts you at a greater risk of developing other health conditions.

I absolutely cannot speak highly enough of CMA Law, particularly of Mr. McMahon, with whom I have had the most experience. My entire family and I trusted CMA with our case following a significant and life-altering vehicle accident, and to say they delivered is putting it lightly. They were reachable & personable at every stage of this arduous, complex, and scary process, made things easier at every stage, inspired us with confidence, and delivered results. If you're looking for a law firm to place the trust of you in your family in, look absolutely no further than CMA - this is your firm. Declan O.

I suffered a severe spinal injury while working as a farm mechanic in the Salinas Valley. The attorneys -Tim McMahon and Mark Sigala were fantastic from the beginning. They fought for me over 3 long years and in the end, we won a difficult liability case against the farm company who was using dangerous equipment. The defendants in the case tried everything to put the blame on me and even claimed I was their employee in order to avoid civil responsibility. Tim and Mark never gave up on me and my case. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are fighters. Adrian A.
