Finding the Right Workplace Accident Lawyer

Need a LawyerWhen you are injured at work, it is not at all uncommon to feel stressed and overwhelmed by the challenges that likely lie ahead. In addition to your physical pain and limitations, you may also be dealing with financial struggles and other uncertainties that could be affecting your quality of life. You probably realize that a lawyer can provide guidance, but choosing an attorney may feel like a particularly confusing item on your endless list of things to do. It is not an understatement to suggest that this step should fast-tracked to the top of your to-do list, however, as a workplace injury attorney can be crucial in protecting your rights and securing the compensation you deserve.

A Fishing Expedition?

If you have never worked with a lawyer before, beginning the selection process can feel like casting a baited hook into deep ocean waters. Depending on the circumstances of your injury, you could have a number of law firms begging you to let them handle your case as they look to make easy money by filing a few documents on your behalf. But how do you know which attorney is right for you? You should start by finding out some fairly basic information about each lawyer you may be considering.

Experience Where it Counts

Work injury cases are different from other types of personal injury cases. There are additional statutes that often apply in work injury situations, and the process for obtaining compensation is often much more complex. Legal experience is a good thing, but if most of your attorney’s experience is with car accidents, or even divorce or criminal law, you may want to consider a different candidate.

Satisfied Clients; No Promises Regarding Outcomes

If a lawyer promises that he or she can win your case or that he or she can guarantee a particular amount in a settlement, find someone else. The variables of each case are far too complex to make guarantees regarding an outcome, regardless of what the attorney has done for previous clients. With that in mind, what does the attorney’s track-record look like? Is he or she trying to sell you on the basis of one or two big verdicts or settlements? A pattern of favorable outcomes is usually preferable to a big win or two, as it demonstrates a level of consistency and perseverance.

Cocky vs. Confident

There is no getting around the fact that many injury attorneys have large egos. When paired with the competitive nature of the practice of the law, this can result in a cockiness and brashness that does not sit well with many clients. Other attorneys exude a much quieter, understated air of confidence while possessing similar skills and knowledge to that of their more flamboyant counterparts. You will have to decide which type of attorney you prefer, as you will be working with him or her for many weeks and months to come.

Comfort and Trust

Trust is perhaps the most critical element of an attorney-client relationship. If you do not trust your lawyer, you may be hesitant to share important details that could make or break your case. A good attorney is welcoming and invites open communication at every stage of the process. He or she is also forthcoming regarding the strengths and weaknesses in your case, as well as his or her billing practices. If you feel like you are not being heard or are not getting all of the necessary details, you should look elsewhere for a new lawyer.

I absolutely cannot speak highly enough of CMA Law, particularly of Mr. McMahon, with whom I have had the most experience. My entire family and I trusted CMA with our case following a significant and life-altering vehicle accident, and to say they delivered is putting it lightly. They were reachable & personable at every stage of this arduous, complex, and scary process, made things easier at every stage, inspired us with confidence, and delivered results. If you're looking for a law firm to place the trust of you in your family in, look absolutely no further than CMA - this is your firm. Declan O.

I suffered a severe spinal injury while working as a farm mechanic in the Salinas Valley. The attorneys -Tim McMahon and Mark Sigala were fantastic from the beginning. They fought for me over 3 long years and in the end, we won a difficult liability case against the farm company who was using dangerous equipment. The defendants in the case tried everything to put the blame on me and even claimed I was their employee in order to avoid civil responsibility. Tim and Mark never gave up on me and my case. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are fighters. Adrian A.
