Eat Right to Reduce Inflammation

InflammationWhen you are recovering from an injury sustained in a workplace accident, there are many things you can do to make your recovery progress more smoothly. One of these is maintaining a healthy diet. In addition to preventing weight gain, the right diet can help you minimize your pain by reducing inflammation.

Inflammation is the localized swelling and reddening of a body part. Individuals who suffer injuries often experience inflammation of the body part that was injured. Incorporate the following foods into your diet to minimize your inflammation and feel better as you progress through your recovery.

Soybeans and Other Beans

Beans, especially soybeans, have been proven to reduce inflammation. This is because of the fiber and the phytonutrients found in beans, which can lower your C-reactive protein (CRP) levels.

In many cases, beans can easily be substituted for meats in dishes like burritos, soups, salads, and stir fry. In addition to their inflammation-fighting ability, beans are an inexpensive source of protein.

Salmon

Salmon is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, which can alleviate inflammation and its related pain. Other types of fish, such as sardines and herring, can also supply the omega-3 fatty acids you need.

Some ideas for salmon meals include salmon sashimi, grilled salmon steaks, or salmon meatballs served with jasmine rice. Be creative and make use of the millions of recipes online to find a way to work salmon and other fish into your diet.

Ginger

Research has shown that ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that make it comparable to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), like Tylenol and Motrin. This is because of the enzymes in the root can inhibit, cyclooxygenase-1 and cyclooxygenase-2.

Fresh or dried ginger can be easily added to a dish as a tangy, sweet enhancement. Try diffusing some ginger in olive oil to make a tasty salad dressing.

Tea

All types of tea contain polyphenols, compounds that can improve the immune system and help to inhibit inflammation. Green tea in particular has been found to reduce inflammation because it contains Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

Find a tea that you enjoy drinking. There are thousands of tea varieties from which you can choose, such as oolong, sencha, and earl grey.

Avoid the Following Foods to Avoid Inflammation
  • Dairy products;
  • Sugar;
  • Grain-fed meats; and
  • Tropical fruits such as pineapples and kiwi.

I absolutely cannot speak highly enough of CMA Law, particularly of Mr. McMahon, with whom I have had the most experience. My entire family and I trusted CMA with our case following a significant and life-altering vehicle accident, and to say they delivered is putting it lightly. They were reachable & personable at every stage of this arduous, complex, and scary process, made things easier at every stage, inspired us with confidence, and delivered results. If you're looking for a law firm to place the trust of you in your family in, look absolutely no further than CMA - this is your firm. Declan O.

I suffered a severe spinal injury while working as a farm mechanic in the Salinas Valley. The attorneys -Tim McMahon and Mark Sigala were fantastic from the beginning. They fought for me over 3 long years and in the end, we won a difficult liability case against the farm company who was using dangerous equipment. The defendants in the case tried everything to put the blame on me and even claimed I was their employee in order to avoid civil responsibility. Tim and Mark never gave up on me and my case. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are fighters. Adrian A.
